SEM Robotics Competitions
SEM’s senior FTC robotics team, the Stonecutters, competed in the North Texas Regional Championship First Tech Challenge. The team, made up of students Thao Nguyen, Eddvar Guzman, Kalee Kuhn, Anthony Inga, Anthony Gonzalez, David Carris, Alex Goberna-Moron, Alex Anyanwu, Jose Vargas, and Sebastian Morabare, advanced all the way to the playoff round. Previously, the Stonecutters competed in the First Tech Challenge Qualifier competition at the University of Texas at Dallas, where they won first prize for their Engineering Notebook and were also finalists for the competition’s highest honor, the Inspire Award—very impressive achievements! SEM’s freshman team, Iron Reign, also competed at the First Tech Challenge Qualifier. The team is composed of SEM students Caitlin Rogers, Max Virani, Omar Ramirez, Jayesh Sharma, and Griffith Samore (as well as Tycho Virani, Max’s brother, borrowed from Travis). They recently competed in the First Tech Challenge tournament at UTD where they were in first place in a field of 30 teams in the qualifying rounds, but got knocked out of the direct elimination finals due to a burned out motor, and did not advance to the Championship.
Thanks to all of the parents, mentors, and coaches who assisted the teams in their endeavors, especially Mr. Kevin Carter and Mr. Alan Gilkes, who volunteered many hours supporting SEM Robotics!
