From Ms. Huitt to SEM Teachers: "Congratulations to you all! The School of Science/ Engineering receives top honors for the Children At Risk 2014 school rankings. I believe this award is a reflection our parental and community support, the hard work of students and most of all the countless hours spent (by our teachers) with your students before and after school on weekends and throughout the year. I know you all sacrifice time away from your family and friends to have more time for our students. I want to personally say thank you! Thank you for your dedication and commitment our students. I feel of all of the rankings, this is the most important. It does not rank the number of AP tests given or the number of AP tests passed. It is a measure of how of much our students grow while they are in our care. I know that I am blessed to work with some of the best educators in the nation." - Tiffany Huitt 2014 NorthTexas High School Rankings. Methodology
SEM #4 in "Best High Schools in America"
From Wall Street Cheat Sheet: "8 Best High Schools in America":
Newsweek is a magazine renowned for its rankings of educational institutes.
In approaching the question of ranking high schools, Newsweek takes several different factors into consideration. Graduation rate and college acceptance rate are two of the more crucial criteria, as they are important in determining the future of a high school’s students; these days, it is difficult to get far in life without a college degree, let alone a high school diploma. The number of advanced placement tests taken on average by a student, scores on metrics like Advanced Placement exams and standardized tests, and the percentage of students who are not taking advanced coursework all also are taken into consideration.
#4. School of Science/Engineering Magnet (Dallas, Texas) The School of Science/Engineering Magnet — also found in Dallas — provides a more mathematical counterpart to the School for the Gifted and Talented which is ranked #5. Though the school does not fare as well in standardized test scores as its liberal arts counterpart, the School of Science/Engineering features a 100 percent graduation rate, propelling it one spot higher than its neighbor in the rankings".
