2014 SEM Staff Appreciation Breakfast-Thursday, May 29
What is this? It’s a monthly breakfast for our SEM teachers while they hold their staff meeting. It’s a great way to show our SEM staff we appreciate their hard work and behind the scenes time invested in our students! Volunteer to send an item with student or drop off before work to room 211 - Drop off items by 7:30 am for breakfast, and 11am for lunch - we feed 30 people. So... If you are you vegan, vegetarian, like to bake casseroles, make breakfast taquitos, breads, fix yummy dishes to share, or enjoy putting together fruit trays… show off your great recipes here.! ! Sign up via the volunteer form to help us create a nice variety for the Staff.

Thank you to all who brought desserts, salads, and drinks to our annual parent dinner night. About 45 SEM parents, students, and teachers came and enjoyed a wonderful pasta dinner with lots of desserts, rolls, salads and drinks. After the dinner PTSA held its last meeting electing our new board for next year. Ms. Huitt shared important information about the school and students shared their experiences on extra curricula activities. It was a fun night packed with information. Thanks to all who participated.

The Science and Engineering Education Center (SEEC) at the University of Texas at Dallas is a leader in STEM education and PBL teaching initiatives in Texas. This year we are offering students a variety of summer camps to provide exciting enrichment opportunities in STEM. We are offering middle school camps in Robotics both LEGO Robotics (used in FIRST LEGO League) and Tetrix Robotics (used in FIRST Tech Challenge). We are also offering high school camps in building a solar car, introduction to space with rockets and weather balloons, and quad copters. More information is at our website. These camps provide a wonderful opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We look forward to see you this summer!
First Texas-wide High School Programming Contest on May 31 Planning is underway to host first state-level high school programming contest at UT Dallas on May 30 and 31. We welcome the teams from all cities and corners of Texas to UT Dallas for this contest! Click here for details on registration. Registration fee is $50 per team, but each school can send up to 4 teams with $100 max fee. April 25 is the new deadline to register. Computer Science department of UT Dallas plans to cover all the costs (hotel stay & meals) to make it affordable for out-of-town teams. Teams are responsible only for the registration fee & round-trip transportation between their hometowns and UT Dallas. If possible, we would like to partially reimburse that cost as well. Mobile app contest for all middle & high school students of Texas
Computer Science department of the University of Texas at Dallas is thrilled to partner with OASiS, an employee resource group within AT&T, to conduct a Mobile App Contest for all middle & high school students of Texas during this Summer! No coding experience is necessary to get started. All you need to do is to form a team of 2 to 4 students, brainstorm & come up with a cool app idea & write about it. If your idea is selected to be in top 20, web based training & support will be provided to develop the mobile app using MIT App Inventor. Final presentation & contest will be on Saturday, August 9th in TI auditorium of ECSS building in UT Dallas campus.
