Reflections Competition Results
All four SEM students received their awards at the Annual District Reflections Awards Ceremony on Jan. 29th.
Cecile Leclerc (Photography) and Destin Seymor (Visual Art) received the Awards of Excellence at district level judging. Jacob Liou and Saumya Rawat received Overall Awards of Excellence and were chosen to perform their advancing work (Jacob performed his musical composition "Walk Together", Saumya performed her movie "Let's Make Education a Top Priority for Our World") at the Award Ceremony. DISD Superintendent Mike Miles, along with Texas PTA President, and many DISD Trustees and Texas PTA officials were among the special guests at this full-house event.
Congratulations to Jacob and Saumya for advancing to the state level judging! This is a wonderful achievement as nearly 60,000 students participate in the program annually and less than 3% of those advance to Texas PTA. Final results will be announced on March 1 via the Texas PTA website.
Parents, please encourage your students to participate at next year's Reflections!
State Result which has come out:
Jacob Liou, SEM junior student, received Honorable Mention/Bronze Medallion for his musical composition, and is invited to attend the Texas State PTA Award Ceremony in the spring. Congratulations, Jacob!

Greetings from Miami University. As we close in on the last few days of winter and look forward to warmer weather, I am excited to share information regarding an on-campus summer opportunity for your most talented students.
Miami University Summer Scholars Program Session I: July 5 – July 17, 2015 Session II: July 19 – July 31, 2015
The Miami University Summer Scholars Program is an opportunity for high-achieving, rising high school juniors and seniors to spend two weeks on Miami’s campus exploring a topic of their choice with an acclaimed Miami faculty member. The program offers students a significant advantage in the college application process, with structured workshops focused on application essay writing, an introduction to financial aid and scholarships, and sessions on developing leadership skills. Participants who choose to apply to Miami will also receive priority consideration for Miami merit scholarships and the university’s premier academic programs — the University Honors Program and the University Academic Scholars Program.
If you have students who would be interested in getting a preview of college life and the competitive college application process, I hope you will encourage them to learn more about the Summer Scholars Program and apply. The University is pleased to offer full scholarships for the Summer Scholars Program to academically talented students with financial need who apply and are accepted to the program.
As part of the application process, counselors will need to submit a letter of recommendation, as well as the applicant’s most current transcript and a copy of any available test score reports. (We will gladly accept ACT, SAT, PSAT, and PLAN scores; official score reports are not required.) If you are submitting application materials on behalf of a student in need of financial assistance, you must also submit verification of the student’s eligibility for free or reduced school lunch. All application materials must be postmarked by May 1, 2015.
If you have any questions, please email summerscholars@MiamiOH.edu or contact Lindsey Holden at Lindsey.Holden@MiamiOH.edu or (513) 529-2556.
Thank you for all you do to promote exceptional learning opportunities for your students. I hope to see your most talented rising juniors and seniors on campus this summer!
