We are seven books under our "break even" point for selling yearbooks verses what it costs to produce them. We have over 40 books still available. Please send your money to school and put in an envelope and drop into our PTSA dropbox, sign the "check-out sheet... and pick up your yearbook.

We are requesting ten LabQuest Mini interface modules to replace older ones that are obsolete, starting to fail, and are not compatible to other new equipment the we are receiving. We will be issuing new laptops to our students next year, ... more My students need ten LabQuest Mini interface modules.
My Students: Our students are taking a number of Advanced Placement science classes in our school. As we work to include more advanced courses, we need to replace older equipment to give them the best possible laboratory experience.
We are a Magnet school in a very large urban district. Many of our students will be the first in their families to go on to a College or University. Many are on free and reduced lunch programs. Most are from minority families. We offer these students an extremely advanced curriculum, and it is so wonderful to watch them respond and perform at levels that so many do not expect.
My Project: We are requesting ten LabQuest Mini interface modules to replace older ones that are obsolete, starting to fail, and are not compatible to other new equipment the we are receiving. We will be issuing new laptops to our students next year, and these new interfaces will work directly with the new laptops. allowing the students to make more advanced types of measurement, and experience many new and more advanced labs.
As a part of our AP Physics program we do many different labs. We try to include both older style labs at a fairly low technology level, and others at a high technology level. The equipment that we use in the higher technology level is old and starting to fail. Your donations will help us to replace the older equipment, and give the students a much better laboratory experience. « hide

Our students are very advanced and motivated young men and women. We are a magnet school in a large urban district, serving a varied population. The majority of our students are considered lower socioeconomic level, and will be the first in their families to go to a university.
My Project: We are in the process of supplying our students with laptop computers for them to use both at home and in their classes starting next year. As a part of their efforts to make use of the technology, I am supplying them with a number of enrichment materials, including both printed material and a set of videos that were produced at our school.
By supplying the students with advanced enrichment materials on SD cards for their school issued laptops, I am helping them to succeed in a very advanced Advanced Placement Physics program. This program is being offered to the students much earlier in the high school experience than is available in any other school. « hide
My students need a set of 150 SD cards to store information for their class.
As of the April DISD School Board Briefing, a change to the Class Ranking policy, EIC (Local), is up for discussion and being voted on. The proposed change would give high schools in Dallas ISD, the option to either continue ranking every single student in their graduating class, or to not rank students at all (students who would be in the top 10% would still receive certification for automatic admissions). Class ranking at SEM is not a representative statistic for our students, who are among the best and brightest students from around the Dallas Metroplex. It is critical that the changes to EIC (Local) as proposed (and attached) are passed by the Dallas ISD school board this year. The passing of this policy would positively impact SEM and other schools’ students by increasing chances for college admission (especially at public, state universities), increasing student motivation to learn and explore their passions, and decreasing stress due to class ranking. While this proposed policy change was on the agenda for the April board briefing, it was not discussed and was postponed until May’s board briefing. We ask that you call your Dallas ISD school board member and ask for their support in making sure the proposed policy change to EIC(Local) is discussed at the May board briefing and that they support its implementation. This policy gives choice to all Dallas ISD high schools. Top schools and districts around the nation have already moved away from mandating that all high schools rank their entire class, and it’s time for Dallas ISD to move forward with this policy as well.
