If the parent has already attended a laptop program training session, they may sign and send the paperwork package with their child to school. Their name will be verified from attendance sheets.
$56 for laptop insurance OR proof of homeowners insurance covering the laptop (specified).
Note: If a parent has not attended the training sessions and does not have a set of paperwork, please contact the office. We will try to link this information on the website soon.
Volunteers to send Juice and Fruit in for Wednesday's Teacher Appreciation Breakfast Oct 7. We will post a sign-up sheet online soon and I'll send out an update with its link.
We need a volunteer parent (preferably one for which English is a second language - but its not a requirement) to sit on the Committee for English Language learners. Steven Hyman SHYMAN@dallasisd.org is the teacher in charge, and would prefer to meet during 5th period as its his "free" period. The committee is required to meet 8 times during the year and at least twice this semester. This is a DISD requirement for all schools.
Comic-con parent volunteers to work the event Friday, October 23, and volunteers to send FOOD and candy! We'll have a sign-up form ready shortly... but until then... please "hold the date". We always have a lot of fun seeing the kids in costumes and having a great time, so this is an EASY event to get your parent volunteer hours in!
Comic-con student volunteers to be on the planning/decorating committee. Duties are simple: Poster making this Tuesday Oct 6 in room 211, and decorating every day of Comic-Con week Oct 19-23. Easy way to earn some service hours and have something great to put on your resume.
PTSA Newsletter - We need someone to produce this newsletter. If you are interested, please contact Cathy Lux <email@example.com>.
We'd like to thank Greystar owner Vickie Berry and her associate Rhona Bartlett. Ms. Berry allowed SEM to gather a TRUCK load of items from a property she has set for demolition. Ms. Barlett spent several hours with our student/parent volunteers roaming the property and loading the moving truck.
___ mini refrigerator/freezers - for project graduation!
___ microwave ovens - for project graduation!
___ 7 office chairs
___ brown leather sofa/chair matching set - we will sell this to raise money to pay for the moving truck. Please contact the office if you are interested and would like to view it.
Join us to make and hang poster around the school Tuesday Oct 6. All Townview schools are welcome to participate in the planning committee and event!
Professional Yearbook Pics - last chance
This year we are having our yearbook photos taken professionally by LifeTouch. Please support our program by purchasing photo packets of your child.
Senior Pics should be available online by the end of this week. Go to www.lifetouchevents.com, guest password is "Brighter 2015". Photos are available for purchase for 90 days. Inquires for LifeTouch can be given to 972 669 9200.
Photos for Freshman - Juniors: can be ordered at mylifetouch.com. Photos are available for 9 months.
Science/Engineering Magnet High School Picture Day: Thursday, September 24 Picture Day ID: LD805147Q0
Students unhappy with their photo, may bring their photo flyer proof sheets with them to be granted retakes – must have this flyer with them. Walk-ups not prepared with their photo flyer are discouraged because they tend to get a lot of students retaking, just “because”… but they weren’t dissatisfied with their original takes.
Parents are requested to bring snacks for testing season by Friday, Oct 9.
We are close to a very important test...
PSAT - Wednesday, Oct 14 - Sophomores and Juniors. The Sophomores take the test to "see where they are at" and the Junior's test scores are their official entry to the National Merit Scholarship program. Make a high enough score and your student will get invited to many VIP university information meetings during their Junior year, and will find out in September of their senior year if their score qualifies them as a semi-finalist. If so... there are many universities that give huge scholarships, waive out-of-state fees, etc. Many benefits to becoming a semi-finalist... so please take this test very seriously. Your student is being prepped during school and please ask your child to review the PSAT workbooks provided by the school.
Note: The PSAT is in a new format this year, so prior year's study booklets will not be helpful.
Hope your child is reviewing well, getting to bed early, and will have A SNACK during testing to help them keep focused and on-task!
How can YOU help?
Our PTSA at SEM strives to provide a bottle of water and snack during each test. This is a mighty big task! (most of the Townview schools do not do this)
We thank Mr. John Howell (our PTSA Testing Support Chair) for organizing this & Ms. Julie Mendez and family for donating and hauling in all 450 bottles of water for our Fall testing dates! And a huge thanks to Nina Callahan who has donated tons of snacks for us!
Please use this form to indicate your contribution so that we know how many snacks to expect.
Thanks so much for helping our awesome kids have a great Fall testing season!

Reflections is now a PTSA Member benefit
The Reflections program is open to all SEM students if the student or at least one person from their primary household is a current member of our SEM PTA before submitting an entry.
The 2015-2016 Reflections theme is Let Your Imagination Fly.
Reflections is a fabulous PTSA program.
Reflections is PTSA's signature arts program. The arts — and the Reflections Program — support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in our school community. Celebrate arts learning in our SEM school community with Reflections.
Reflections provides opportunities for students to create art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes drawing, painting, print making, and collage). No experience is required.
Students submit entries by our SEM deadline. Our PTSA will judge the entries, present local awards and submit the advancing entries in each category to the council. Entries are judged at the local, council, state and national PTA levels.
Key dates: SEM entry deadline: October 30, 2015 Trinity Council entry deadline: TBA (usually early December)
Students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme. Each entry must also conform to the guidelines developed by the National PTA.
Also: Tell us what your kids did this summer! Any interesting programs? Job? Internship? Volunteer Service? We'd like to share so that other families can get ideas of what they could plan for next summer.
2014-15 yearbook still for sale!
We have over 30 books still available. Please pay online or send $35 cash/check in an envelope to put in our PTSA dropbox and we will get a yearbook out to you ASAP. Be sure to label the envelope with your child's name and make sure we know this is a payment for last year's book.
New this year... Advertisements! These can be purchased by family, friends, students, or businesses! We will be sending out details about this in the coming weeks, but please start thinking about the ad you'd like to create!
If your child would like to join the yearbook staff, we welcome them! Our meetings will begin again after Comic-Con... so Monday, Oct 26.
