Good Job 2016 Yearbook Committee!
Another issue of the yearbook has gone to the printer! Our PTSA yearbook volunteer, Marianne Leclerc, would like to thank the executive editor of this issue – Brenda Venegas for producing a great book again this year.
Books are available for sale thru our website here or you may put a $35 check or cash into our PTSA dropbox in the office. We have envelopes available or you may write your child’s name/grade on any envelope and include payment. Donations (in any amount) to pay for books to give to kids who otherwise would not be able to afford a book are welcome and encouraged. We'll have 200 books for sale on a first come/first served basis... order yours today!
We have prior year’s books for sale. If your child is an upperclassman and you haven’t purchased all four years of books... it would be an awesome graduation gift to have the entire collection. (We currently have 2014, 2015, 2016 available for $35 each.) If relatives are asking what they should buy your child as a gift... send them to our website! Free shipping... ;-).
Our yearbook signing party will be moved to Friday, May 20. (originally scheduled for April 13.) This is a party where we distribute the yearbooks all at once and give the kids several hours after school to hang out and sign each others books. We provide food and decorations to make it a festive party. Please contact Marianne Leclerc if you’d like to help chair the event this year.
I’m sure there are others who have helped out and we thank them whole heartedly, but special thanks go out to the following for assisting with the yearbook work and taking on leadership roles.
Forming next year's yearbook committee now!
Working on the yearbook in a leadership role is a GREAT thing to put on your college applications and really does give you good project management experience. We are already forming a committee for next year’s book, and are in search of an executive editor, and an editor for each grade. The executive editor needs to be someone who can rally the other students to be deliberate about taking high quality photos throughout the year, load them onto the yearbook server and build the yearbook pages - keeping an eye on good representation of the student body.
If you are organized and would sink your teeth into organizing the yearbook, please contact Marianne Leclerc.
We also need new parent volunteers as the parents who started the yearbook have kids who are graduating this year and its time to hand over the reins.
Along the same lines... we are looking for people (students and parents) who would like to work on the website committee as we strive to really build-out the site and make it a full repository for all school activities and events and make its calendar function more useful.
Please call Marianne (214 906 7022) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss what all is involved in any of these tasks.

SEM has a Texas PTA Scholarship Winner!
Congrats to Cecile Leclerc. This is the second year in a row an SEM student has won this $1000 scholarship.
Josiah Mercado was last year’s recipient.

Hi everyone! It is that time again. Time to confirm the PTSA Officers and Standing Committee Chairs for the 2016-17 school year! We need your help in meeting the upcoming PTSA requirements.
A nominating committee must be in place to start the 2016-17 election process. The role of the nominating committee is to provide a slate of candidates for the PTSA Officer roles. The committee is comprised of three (3) members. Two (2) additional volunteers are needed to finalize the Nominations Committee. We really need to confirm the nominating committee as soon as possible. If you’re willing to commit to a short term process, please email Leslie Taylor.
2016-17 Standing Committees
If you are interested in returning to your current role or serving on the board in a different position, please reply here with your interests. Please, rank order your interests if you are considering more than one role.
If you know of any current or incoming parents who are interested and or have previous experience in serving on a PTA or PTSA organization, please let us know so the nominating committee, once complete, can reach out to these individuals.
The following are important, upcoming dates:
4/12/2016 - General Membership Meeting – nominating committee recommendations will be presented and the 2016-17 election for officers will be held
What We Need From You
Volunteer to participate on the nominating committee
Provide your interests in serving on the board for the 2016-17 school year
Please remember to submit copies of your acceptance and financial aid letters to me as you receive them. We need them to continue to receive funds for programs like mine, and we use the data to better advise future classes. They are also a required part of your senior clearance sheet...so I'll need everything before I can sign off pre-graduation.
The PTSA at SEM thinks fundraising should be painless! That's why we like the Write-a-Check Campaign because you only have to write one check and you're done! There’s no selling involved and 100% of every dollar supports SEM students. Your donation is used to provide special programs, activities and events to support the academic and social needs of our students and staff. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today! Please use our on-line form to indicate the amount of your donation and proceed to checkout.
Also, another way to increase contributions may be through company matching donations. Does your company match donations? If so, enter "yes". We can provide assistance, if needed, in making the application to your employer:
Schoola Resale Clothing Fundraiser
Our Schoola clothes fundraising drive is in full swing.
This fundraiser will help clean our closets of clothes we’ve outgrown and support our children at the same time! Schoola collects gently used adult, teen and children’s clothes and sells them online. We’ll receive 40% of the profits which helps to fund programs SEM programs.
You can help by donating clean clothing in, new or like new condition and place them in the bin which will be located in front of the SEM office. You can also help spread the word, encouraging others to donate!
Thanks for your support! We look forward to another great year!
