So... what IS the Awards Ceremony on Thursday?
We've had several parents ask for additional information about the awards ceremony coming up this Thursday. What is it... and why did my child receive such a nice personalized invitation to it? We've asked Ms. Huitt to give us the 411 and below is her response...
Thursday, May 19
6:30 ceremony with refreshments following
To provide some context for this event we have the awards ceremony each year in May. The event is used to celebrate our students’ academic achievements and outstanding contributions to the school community. We also recognize the students’ extra-curricular accomplishments. Students receiving personalized invitations to the event are designated as an awardee.
Students will be recognized at the awards ceremony in one or more of the following categories:
These are teams that have won some sort of competition this year at the district, state, national, or international level. Each team will stand and be recognized for their accomplishments.
Academic Awards were determined by the teachers in each department. Each department chose students for the following awards:
Most Outstanding, awarded to those students who show the most advanced levels of content mastery.
Most improved, awarded to those students who have shown the greatest academic growth over the course of the year.
Most Engaged, awarded to those students who have had the greatest impact on the classroom experience—students who improve the learning environment for everyone.”
These awards speak to the non-academic qualities of our students. They were nominated by the faculty as a whole. Overall awards are given in three categories:
Leadership, awarded to students who take an active role in planning, organizing, executing school related activities and events.
Community, awarded to students who are active in the SEM community in a variety of different roles and capacities.
Character, awarded to students who best embody trustworthiness, respect,
We will also use this event to recognize some of our outstanding parent and community volunteers. PTSA also uses this opportunity to present additional awards.
