Seniors: We have confirmed LifeTouch will bring back the tux/drape and cap/gown. If a senior has missed taking a photo or is unhappy wiht their proof - please take a photo Nov 3. We need photos from each senior for the yearbook as well as for the Senior slideshow that will be shown during senior activities and graduation. All photos will be touched up for acne prior to being in both, but this is done by our yearbook volunteer - not LifeTouch. Please understand that your LifeTouch photos will not be retouched unless you order it.
End of the Six-weeks
The end of the Six weeks is Friday 11/4. Updated progress reports have gone home with students over the last two weeks. Please ensure you have had an opportunity to see your students’ progress report. If your student has a low grade ask the following questions;
Do you know why you have a low grade?
What are your options to improve your grade?
Have you met with your teacher about your grade?
Have you done your best in this class, do you fill as if you gave it 100% effort?
How much time have you spend studying for this class?
Have you attended tutoring, how many times?
Where is your class syllabus? Where is your binder? Where is your tutoring schedule?
How can I help you?
What is your plan for improvement over the next six weeks?
What can you do as a parent?
Encourage your child to speak with his/her teacher.
Help your child develop an action plan for the next six weeks.
Discuss the grades colleges will actually see on their transcript – they will only see the semester average (1st, 2nd, 3rd, six weeks grades= 85% of semester average , Final exam= 15% of semester average)
Sign up for Gradespeed. Allow your child to have access so they can begin to monitor their own grades.

Guinness World Record Achieved by SEM 9th Graders!
Capital One kicked off Techweek Dallas with a Guinness World Recordsattempt for the largest programming lesson. During the “Monster Coding Jam Session,” more than 600 ninth-grade DISD students from various NAF academies learned the basics of app creation from 250 Capital One volunteers and got the chance to develop their very own “monster mash” gaming app. This monstrous event gave students hands-on experience in software development and problem solving, and introduced them to opportunities in the technology field. The current record is 712, organized by the Lithuanian MEP Antanas Guoga, on September 9, 2016 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
A representative from the Guinness organization was there to confirm that Dallas ISD achieved the record!
All students should have received their portrait proof packets from their English Teachers. Please consider ordering photos so that Lifetouch will consider our school profitable and will continue to service us.
This is the second year we've used Lifetouch, and they make our yearbook work easy. They also give our seniors a nice/inexpensive way to take/purchase tux/drape and cap/gown portraits. This is a great cost alternative to higher priced private photographers... that our seniors rarely schedule... it is working out well for the majority of our students.
Photo retake day is Thursday, Nov 3 (8:30 - 10am only) - for Staff, and all students. If you are not happy with your portrait... please go to room 211 to retake photos.
Update/Corrections to Seniors:We WILL have tux/drape and cap/gown available!
Please order packets by turning in proofs packet order form or by ordering online.

SCHOOLA RESALE CLOTHING FUNDRAISER
Great news! Next month we’ll be kicking off a clothing drive with our fundraising partner, Schoola. What’s Schoola? It’s a great way to raise funds for our school. Schoola collects preloved women’s and children’s clothes, preps and sells them online, and gives 40% of the proceeds (minus the cost of inbound shipping) back to our school to help fund programs for Townview SEM. That’s $2 out of every $5 earned back to our school! Wanna know how to help? Donate clean clothing in new or like-new condition from. We’ll be collecting clothes at the school.
