On January 14th, students from the Science/Engineering Magnet competed with students from private schools across the Metroplex in the Metroplex Math Contest. Students won awards in both the Open Division, for students who have already completed the course, and the Closed Division, for students currently enrolled in a course. The following students placed in their respective events:

SEM placed 4th out of 11 teams in the overall sweepstakes rankings. Please congratulate these students when you see them.
Donors Choose for AP Physics 1/2
Mr. Carter has a Donors Choose grant posted called "Labs do Compute!". It is to purchase 2 more 10" laptops that they need for AP Physics 1 and 2 for data collection. It has $445 to go out of $630, and ends on March 21.
Our school has opened an Amazon Associates account where people can click on our link, go to Amazon and shop, and the school can make a small percentage of the sales (like between 1% - 5%). Congressional Art Competition
It is time once again for the Congressional Art Competition and Congressman Marc Veasey is glad to host it for the fifth consecutive year in Texas Congressional District 33.
All high school students living in district 33 are invited to participate. To find out a student’s congressional district please input the students’ zip code at www.house.gov. We look forward to receiving many submissions!
Here are some key dates:
The competition is now open and artwork is due April 7.
The exhibit of all works will run from April 17 to April 28 at TCC’s South Campus in Fort Worth.
The winner will be announced at the District Reception on April 24, which will also be held at TCC’s South Campus in Fort Worth.
As always, the winner of the competition will be selected after all submissions are reviewed by a panel of art critics, art professors, and/or artists from Congressional District 33. The winner will receive two round-trip tickets to Washington, DC to attend a reception at the US Capitol. In addition, the winning student’s artwork will be displayed in the United States Capitol for a year. Finally, the winner will receive a $3,000/year scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design if he or she decides to enroll there for his or her higher education.
The College of Chemistry and the Berkeley Global Science Institute present SciTech, a program for rising high school students (grades 9-12) who are interested in enhancing their understanding of the problems facing the world, learning about the relevance of science and technology in addressing such problems, and being inspired to pursue careers in science and technology that will ensure their contribution to positively impact the world.
