Comic Con - Volunteers needed! We've broken the tasks down into sub-committees and need volunteers to chair the committees and to serve on the committees. (Decorations, Food, Photography, Costume Contest, etc.)
Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for nearly 50 years. Through the efforts of Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.
SEM will feature the winning entries in the yearbook, and PTSA newsletter, and will choose up to 20% or at least one entry from each category to advance to the Council/Regional level. It will then be reviewed and perhaps chosen to advance to State competition, and perhaps then on to National competition!
Students may enter the Reflections program in one or more arts categories with no limit to the amount of entries in a single category. See each arts category rules for additional entry requirements.
The student or at least one person from their primary household must be a current member of the SEM PTSA. (Membership deadline is the submission deadline for Reflections.)
Our 2017 PTSA Committee Chair is Raul Trevino; please contact him if you have any questions.
Saumya Rawat hosts App Development Camp
Saumya's 3 day free IT Empowerment for Her app development camp at UTD for middle school girls from underrepresented areas in DFW was published on the UTD CS department site. Please click here to read all about it. ____________________________
SEM's own Yash Chandak has written a resource book on Number Sense techniques.
When asked why he didn't sell the book, Yash answered that he wrote the book as a service to his teammates and as an obligation he felt - being their team captain. He never intended for his work to be monetized. Since he has shared the free download link with his teammates, he has also shared it with many schools inside and outside of DISD. Yash feels like the writing will do its purpose and improve the competition scores of others.
I think we can all be proud of Yash and agree indeed that he has left his legacy at SEM!
